A dental emergency typically includes severe tooth pain, swelling or suspected infection, trauma (such as a knocked or broken tooth), uncontrolled bleeding, or any issue that’s rapidly getting worse. If a tooth is knocked out, handle it by the crown (avoid touching the root), rinse it gently with saline if dirty, and try to place it back in its socket without forcing it.
