Is a Hygienist appointment right for you?
Professional dental cleaning goes beyond your daily routine, it's essential preventative care performed by a trained hygienist using specialist tools to reach areas you simply can't access at home.
Our hygienist, Paige, graduated from Curtin University Western Australia with a Bachelor of Science in Oral Health Therapy. With extensive experience in public dentistry across Australia, she specializes in preventative care and has a natural ability to make even the most apprehensive patients feel completely at ease. Since joining our London practice in 2023, Paige uses advanced techniques to provide thorough cleanings, remove stubborn plaque and tartar, and spot developing problems early when they're easiest to treat.
A hygienist appointment is right for you if:
- It's been more than 6 months since your last cleaning
- You notice bleeding gums when brushing
- You have persistent bad breath
- Your gums appear red or swollen
- You want to prevent gum disease and maintain optimal oral health

How your hygienist appointment works

What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your appointment with Paige takes around 30-45 minutes. She'll start by understanding your oral health history and any concerns, then perform a thorough examination while explaining exactly what she's doing.
During the cleaning, you'll experience a deep clean that reaches areas your toothbrush can't. Most patients find it refreshing, though some areas may feel slightly sensitive if there's buildup. Afterwards, your teeth will feel noticeably smoother and cleaner, many patients wait a few hours before eating just to enjoy how fresh their mouth feels.
We typically recommend appointments every six months, though Paige will tailor this to your needs and provide personalized advice for maintaining your results at home.

Dental hygienist appointment frequently asked questions
Although you can eat and drink whatever you’d like to after a professional dental clean, many people decide to wait for a few hours and simply enjoy just how clean their teeth feel.
Yes. Even if you no longer have any of your own teeth, there are still elements of your oral health that require checking and you should attend appointments as recommended by your dental hygienist.
Every patient is unique. Typically, we recommend that you have an appointment with our hygienist in Shepherd’s Bush every six months, but you should always follow the advice given to you personally on the day. For example, if your hygienist suspects that you might be developing issues with gum disease, they may recommend you come back for an additional check-up and clean in three months’ time. Rest assured that the advice you are given will be designed to optimise your oral health.
