What is the Askew Road Arts Festival?

Now a firm fixture in the local calendar, the festival brings together artists, schools and the wider community for a week of exhibitions, workshops and events across galleries, streets and community spaces around Askew Road. This year's theme, “If children are our future…”, explores how the children growing up in our area today might help shape what comes next, treating them not as symbols of the future but as active participants in it.

It's a wonderful, warm-hearted celebration of creativity and community, and exactly the kind of local initiative we love to get behind.

What we're supporting

As a festival sponsor, we're proud to be backing “Echoes of Childhood”, a short story anthology of nine reflective pieces created by emerging writers through the WILDE Foundation, exhibited at the Askew Gallery. It's a thoughtful project about what our memories can teach us about the future, and we're pleased to help bring it to a wider audience.

A few highlights to look out for

With events running across the whole week, there's genuinely something for everyone. A handful we're looking forward to:

• Tree Portraits Exhibition & Charity Auction – giant postcard artworks of local trees, raising money for good causes, at Arthur's Coffee House all week.
• Bouncing Off the Wall! & Open House – a graphic arts fair and guided tours of the Grade II* listed Greenside Primary School on Sunday 20th September.
• Family art workshops – printmaking, drawing and hands-on sessions for children and parents throughout the week at Kite Studios and beyond.
• The Festival Wrap Party & Charity Auction – a lovely community finale at Arthur's Coffee House on Friday 25th September.
